Fire and Ice

If one is able to bear witness to this rare and fleeting kind of light and conditions, at that moment you can consider yourself very fortunate! Firefalls are but a small trickle of water that seldom ever shows itself. The sky must be clear on the horizon, allowing the sunset’s last light to hit the water just perfectly for a few days toward the end of February each year! Not enough snow and it will not show, too cold and it will not melt enough snow and any clouds on the horizon will block your view and result without the beautiful glow. After several years of not capturing this event, I was finally lucky enough to get the conditions just right. The falls were glowing brilliantly against the granite walls of El Capitan with a fresh coat of snow covering the landscape!
