HEADWATERS

Backpacking through the Rocky Mountain high country during the early summer is one of my most fond memories. New life abounds everywhere, from cascading glaciers melting away in the sun to wild flowers everywhere and young fawn mule deer running about. On this particular trip we were packed back into the wild for a week-long stint and the water in the streams was running fast as the snow melted high above amongst the 13,000 feet peaks surrounding us. The morning light filtered through the trees softly as the mist caught an almost fairytale glow, this small waterfall flowing from the decay of this old fallen pine was simply gorgeous. This composition was not planned, it was by sheer chance that we traversed through this small basin and I was able to capture one of my favorite waterfall shots.
