MIRRORED MOMENTS

After sleeping in the bed of my truck for three hours until 2 AM, I awoke in order to start the dark trek up into the timberline. My goal was to try to get to the shoreline of this high alpine lake by first light to capture the alpenglow. Since a recent storm had left the evening prior, I was hoping that there would be little wind in order to capture this lake in serene peace! After hiking in the muddy depths of darkness for a couple hours, the sky began to change color. The blacks gave way to grays, then cool blues, and then colors began to give way to the idle dim glow of first light. As I raced down the path, the furthest mountains began to come to life and the alpenglow burst against the sheer granite walls just as I set up for the shot. The next few moments glowed with color and within 4 minutes, it was gone!
