Among giant redwoods, there is a special time each year where these magical flowers bloom. They lay deep in the forests, often overrun with thick underbrush; the compositions are tough and extremely challenging to accomplish. Many may not realize that the rhododendrons grow up to 30 feet above the forest floor, competing for light that filters to the ground! This image was taken from a ladder 12 feet off of the ground to accomplish a rare perspective on the beautiful blooms.

The simple truths in life have me in awe over this scene. I sat studying it for several days looking at the hardened and heavily crack laden earth. How these tiny flowers exist to begin with is the miracle of life itself finding a way to thrive! Seldom do they bloom, however when they do, these blooms reveal a hidden desert landscape that for a brief time reveals a desert with a much different appearance than the typical badlands scene. These vast carpets of wildflowers covered this flat dried clay playa for miles around! Magic and resilience are the first thoughts to enter my mind as I stood there studying and searching for just the perfect composition to share with you here.
